Exploring a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered plenty of interesting indie games. Yet, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game includes a hero that is literally a dung striving to make its way to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is simple: you only need a single jump button. Throughout numerous challenges, battle mini-bosses and visit a market to purchase outfits for your dung hero.

Plan your actions precisely, as a wrong move means beginning again. Bounce on bubbles to hurl yourself to new heights, cross disappearing platforms, and activate switches to unlock new areas. Gather UN-KOINS for buying more difficult game content in which gameplay gets crazy.

Visually, the game shows off vibrant stages and an amazing music score. The simple visual style featuring shifting basic polygons could recall gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though tough to recall similar titles where you control a dung character, video games frequently featured fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, like taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is ready now on Steam, with the final release planned to launch on PC in the fall.
