The Actress Expresses Discussing Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Nation Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels appropriate to comment publicly countering the Trump administration, concerned it could exacerbate polarizing arguments and increase separation throughout the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains Lawrence
Speaking with media, Lawrence shared, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, celebrities fail to influence at all on voter decisions.”
The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the country apart.”
Political Evolution
Lawrence has admitted freely about supporting right and leftwing presidential nominees over the years. Brought up by Republican parents in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democratic party and explaining she realized during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was undermining her individual liberties as a woman.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she commented that Donald Trump’s election would be “the end of the world” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “because I feel she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will do whatever she can to protect women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Trump as a presidential contender, but the limited influence public figures have over the voting intentions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“The second term seems distinct,” said Lawrence about his leadership. “As he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
Latest Film
Lawrence is discussing the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she plays a recent parent who struggles with her emotional state in the countryside. At a press conference for the movie in the film festival, she addressed the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Additional Thoughts
The actress elaborated by expressing that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the discourse of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be accepted to the kids today. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence aimed to shift frustration about the conflict to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she said, in what many took to be a nod to the recent commitment endorsed by thousands of entertainment industry figures to boycott certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her role in the acclaimed film, is receiving praise for her work in her latest project. Although Ramsay has denied the story being interpreted as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, the actress shared that she did relate to elements of her role’s experience after the arrival of her youngest child, not long after shooting ended.
“There was concern about my child,” she commented, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a medication called Zurzuvae and I used it for 14 days and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
Lawrence also mentioned of the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the film while she was expecting and limited physically.
“It feels nice,” she said, of being forced to cast off vanity. “Truly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
